How I Make Worklife Easier

Worklife isn’t easy but we’ve got to pay bills, support the family and buy all the things we need to survive so even though we have to wake up really early, brave the countless typhoons, test our patience through the traffic congested roads, go fresh but come out wasted in MRT’s and LRT’s and we’re literally up to our eyeballs in terms of stress, we still show up at work and do the things we need to do. It’s so hard but as responsible adults, we have to do this every single work day.

There isn’t a working person in the world that doesn’t or hasn’t experienced dealing with stress. Whether you’re an office person, an intern, a contractor, a skilled worker, a professional, an entrepreneur, a home-based freelancer, or even when you're managing your family business, you’ve probably been in situations wherein you had to deal with work-related stress.

Worklife stress is pretty common and the only way to survive it is to cope with it, lessen the possibility of experiencing it and strengthen our immune system so that we don’t have to deal with its effects on our health.

As a Supply Chain Planning Supervisor, I’ve been accustomed to experiencing work-related stress and have come up with best ways to make work life easier by reducing stress at the workplace or at least reducing its effects. I’m making this blog post so I can share a few tips and pointers with you.

In order to address work-related stress properly, instead of posting random tips which I know some of you already know, I've decided to make this blog as comprehensive and as useful as possible.

Instead of just tips, I included the actual steps I take in order to combat work-related stress so feel free to read and apply this in your worklife. I also did some research in order to make this blog post as informative as possible so please don't forget to share this with your family, friends and officemates so they too, can make their worklife easier.

STEP#1 - Recognize the source/s of your stress at work.
They say that in order to solve a problem, the first thing you've got to do is to determine the source of your problem. In this case, our common problem is STRESS AT WORK.

In this blog post, I will use the term stressor a lot so it's best that I define it now rather than having you google it later.
A stressor is a chemical or biological agent, environmental condition, external stimulus or an event that causes stress to an organism.

Instead of thinking randomly about the work-related stressors, I made a table below that contains the TOP 20 SOURCES/CAUSES of WORK-RELATED STRESS (based on research, study and personal work experience) so you can determine the percentage at which you're stressed about your work. We currently don't have the means to quantify our stress scientifically speaking, but at least using this table you'll know your stress percentage.

Look at the table below. Count the number of stressors you have (total number of stressors in this table is 20). Get your stress percentage by counting your stressors then dividing it by the total number of stressors. So for example, you count 10 stressors present in your life, divide it by 20 then multiply it by 100 and you'll get 50%. At least now, you have an idea how stressed you really are at work.

A Rappler article that posted a study from Willis Towers Watson shows the Top 10 stressors (already included in the table I provided) in Asian workers. It also shows that there is a major difference in opinion by the employees and the workforce with regards to the levels of the work stressors. The image below (from Rappler) shows the said disparity.

If you're part of the management, at least now you know which factors contribute most to worklife stress and you can do something for your workforce. If you're part of the workforce like me, now you know that you are not alone when it comes to being stressed at work!

Now that we've identified the sources of your stress at work, let's move to the next step.
 ===========================
STEP#2 - Know the health problems associated with work-related stress.

Instead of going directly to the solution, I added this step in order to bring more awareness to the effects of stress to our health. It makes doing and sticking to our action plans easier because we would know what would happen to us if we don't do anything about our work-related stress. This step would hopefully trigger a call to action or a need to cope and recover from the work-related stress and show that this kind of stress should not be taken lightly.

Remember, long term exposure to work-related stress can kill you.
 Other Asian countries even has a name for it. In Japan, it's "KAROSHI", Korea calls it "GWAROSA" and China calls it "GUOLAOSI", all of which means "death from overwork", which is recognized and documented in these countries, wherein those who suffer from work-related stress and overwork became more susceptible to heart problems like heart attack and stroke.

Cortisol, a stress hormone, is released when we get stressed promotes fat build up which clog our arteries, lowers our immune system, depletes our white blood cells and making us more susceptible to diseases and heart problems.
From 2nd ACT Health.com
 As seen above, Cortisol is responsible for the short term and long term stress responses of the body that makes us more immune to sickness and very susceptible to heart problems.

Below are the signs and symptoms of stress that your body encounters or exposed to:

As seen above, WORK-RELATED STRESS, if not controlled, can increase heart rate and clog arteries which lead to heart diseases, it causes a lot of migraines which increases the chance of suffering stroke, it causes high blood pressure and it decreases digestive system activity which leads to infections, indigestion, constipation, diarrhea and nausea.  Stress at work also lowers immune system which makes us more susceptible to disease and viruses (this may also be the culprit why you always catch a cold) and gives us constant neck and back pain.

So next time you're wondering why you or your office mate is constantly absent at work because of diarrhea, flu or migraines, it may be because of the stress experienced at work. It may be time to assess work load, work pressures and deadlines, etc.

Stress also decreases Serotonin, so don't be surprised if a stressed work buddy is grumpy. It's just a sign of stress.

Chronic stress also contributes to infertility and speed up the aging process.
Those who want to have a baby have to manage their stress levels. It's now common for couples who want to have children to take vacations and time off from work. That's because stress is too high and sometimes, they lack the enthusiasm to engage in baby making because their energies are all used up because of overworking. Sounds familiar? Then, take that needed break!

Haven't you also noticed how people with really stressful work and lifestyle look older than those who are managing their stress levels and enjoying life? If you feel and look older than your age, it's time to act and do what you can to combat work-related stress.

A hormone that helps reduce stress is Oxytocin and it's directly stimulated by taking Vitamin C. This has been backed by numerous studies by health experts. Speaking of Vitamin C, I've been taking FERN-C since December of last year because of stress and because I get colds to often and so far, it's the only Vitamin C that effectively helps me cope with stress and my susceptibility to catch cold.

FERN-C helps us cope with work-related stress by lowering our cortisol levels, stimulating oxytocin, removing toxins from our body, improving our immune system, easing our mental stress, aiding our WBC count and enhancing our energy for work and play.

I've noticed a definite improvement on my health because I don't get sick that often anymore. When I found out that FERN-C helps stimulate Oxytocin production as well as lowers cortisol, I definitely recommended it to my relatives and friends and if you're looking for an effective Vitamin C, I suggest you give it a try kasi ito'y SUBOK NA! (translation: It's tested and proven) I'm not just saying this to promote something, but definitely, you should go ahead and see the results for yourself. Mas maganda kung ikaw mismo ang sumubok sa galing ng FERN-C (translation: It's better if you try it yourself and see FERN-C's effectiveness).

Now that you know that stress at work is very harmful to your health, let us now go to the next step to help you cope with your work stressors.
===========================

STEP#3 - Analyze your situation and determine the needed action plans.
Now it's time to determine your action plans based on the stressors you have. Below is a table containing the list of 20 stressors I've mentioned in Step#1, on the second column, I've provided some possible action plans that you can take in order to rid yourself of unwanted stress or to help you cope with it. These action plans specifically target the TOP 20 work-related stress that we encounter everyday.

Disclaimer: These are just tips and you are welcome to use it on your own discretion since we all have different situations.
STRESSORS FROM TRAVELLING TO & FROM WORK:
STRESSORS
POSSIBLE ACTION PLANS
Traffic
- Wake up early and allot extra time for the traffic;
- Watch TV shows that report traffic situations while having breakfast so you can avoid heavy traffic caused by accidents;
- For those with their own cars, use online apps such as Waze, just make sure you are connected to a solid wifi connection.
- Having a powerbank or extra external battery for your phone might prove useful in some situations.
- Blast your favorite music to keep your mind off the traffic so you won't get easily irritated at work or when you go home.
- If you're a passenger, you can use this time to update your social media accounts or stay in touch with friends and relatives.
Car Problems
- Ensure you have backup plans (extra tire, credit card for gasoline, etc.);
- Place number of towing company or people that may help you on your phone;
- Ensure cellphone is fully charged;
- If your cellphone is not on postpaid plan, always have a few spare prepaid load cards inside your car.
- Learn how to change flat tires and make simple troubleshooting.
MRT/LRT/FX queue
- Allot more time for travel so you have enough time to "freshen up" for work and you don't have to run to beat the clock.
- Make sure you have back-up plans in case your ride is not functional.
On a side note, good news! This problem is being developed under the Duterte Administration and the MRT seems to be faster now so the queue isn't as horrifying as it once was.
Difficulty getting a ride / Taxi problems
- Again, always have a backup plan, including a person you might ask for help, etc.;
- Install Uber and Grabtaxi in your phone and use their services to ensure you'll have a ride;
- Keep Taxi Companies' Contact numbers; Below are Metro Manila's taxi hotlines:
24/7 Taxi: 642-3525; 634-5980

- Always have enough change (barya) for transportation purposes;
- Always count your change and when paying, announce the money you've given to avoid cases wherein drivers would pretend they received 100 pesos when in fact they received more than that;
- Text the plate number and taxi name to your family or friends in case you encounter a problem;
- Ask the taxi driver to turn on the meter as soon as you sit inside to avoid having to pay an absurd amount when you reach your destination;
- Maintain a fully charged phone. Nothing sucks than having a phone with an empty battery and becoming helpless in certain situations;
- Since you'll be near lots of people who may be sick and spreading viruses, I suggest you take FERN-C to improve your immune system and fight the common colds and flu.
- Also consider carpooling possibilities with friends or family.
Typhoons
- Save back-up of your current work on your flash drive so in case you can't come to work, you can still access part of your work at home;
- Follow PAG-ASA's social media to keep updated;
- If there's a typhoon and rain is too strong, stay at home;
- Consider buying foldable rain boots for your shoes or bring an extra pair of shoes and socks and keep these in your office in case you need them;
- Never go out of the house without your trusty umbrella. I'm always guilty of this and my wife gets furious whenever I forget to bring it with me;
- Always take your dose of Vitamin C to keep you protected from sickness and the elements. I always have FERN-C with me wherever I go because getting sick is not an option.
STRESSORS FROM ACTUAL WORK:
STRESSORS
POSSIBLE ACTION PLANS
Too much Workload or Understaffed
- Request a meeting with your supervisor/manager and be honest and open with them. It's better to tell them straight away than give false hopes and promises and end up disappointing everyone;
- Learn to say NO but do it respectfully;
Problems at work
- Do not ignore problems at work;
- Do something as soon as the problem arises to avoid it from getting out of hand. If assistance is needed, do not hesitate to request and ask for help;
Need to do overtime
- Practice time management and delegate tasks;
- If you can't avoid overtime, plan for the future so that you'll know how much time you actually need to finish a similar job or project. Do not do overtime every night, make sure you do it ONLY if it's absolutely necessary. If it becomes too often, you can talk to your supervisor/manager about it;
- Don't forget to take FERN-C because it helps us cope with stress and gives us the extra boost of energy we need for extended hours of work.
Low/Unsatisfactory salary
- Silence will bring you nothing even if you're doing your best effort;
- Remember and apply Matthew 7:7 "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you."
Unrealistic Target/Deadlines
- Talk to your boss/supervisor/manager and straighten out job expectations. Targets and deadlines should be achievable and feasible. If your boss insists on an unreasonable target/deadline and it's causing you too much stress and health problems, it might be time to look for better opportunities.
STRESSORS FROM OFFICEMATES/WORKMATES:
STRESSORS
POSSIBLE ACTION PLANS
Unsupportive officemates & Bad Boss
- If they don't care or if they are mean to you, don't be mean to them. Their attitude defines them and you are better than that;
- Be kind to them. Sometimes, when you show kindness to others, they tend to reciprocate that kindness and make you more likeable;
- Focus your attention to your friends at work. You'll always encounter at least one bad potato in every office you'll go to so make sure you can handle it gracefully and be civil with them to maintain a good working relationship despite the personal issues they have with you;
- Suggest an open forum with them or confront them if things are getting out of hand.
- You'll have to see them and rub elbows with them every single day. If they just won't change and you've already confronted them about it, explore your options. It's important to keep work relationships enjoyable and healthy to endure the hard work in the office.
Gossips & Rumors
- Don't engage in gossiping. Remember that those who gossip to you will gossip about you;
- The less they know about your personal life, the better;
- Stop gossip by not helping spread it.
Unrecognized work
- Talk to your manager during your performance appraisal and let him/her know that you love it when people appreciate your work and efforts. Tell them it keeps you motivated if your work is recognized.
Misunderstandings & No Teamwork
- There is no perfect set of officemates and there will always be friction because we are all unique so learn to extend your patience;
- If work is affected by lack of teamwork, set a group meeting or at least talk to your manager to make sure that the team's output is never compromised.
Circle of friends/ Feeling left out
- Participate in company activities and make new friends;
- We can't all be friends but that doesn't mean we can't go along with each other;
- Determine those who have similar interests and befriend them;
- Make yourself useful, adapt well to your officemates' different personalities and be a breath of fresh air for others so they'll welcome you into their group.
STRESSORS FROM OTHER WORK-RELATED FACTORS:
STRESSORS
POSSIBLE ACTION PLANS
Work-Life Balance & Personal Problems
- Never bring your work at home and always make sure that you maintain a work-life balance by taking vacations and spending quality time with family.
Taxes, Benefits & Job Security
- If you have issues with taxes, benefits and job security, make sure you raise these with your HR department asap because the longer you wait, the more difficult it is to talk about it;
- Make sure that everything is clear and in black and white.
Conflicting or Unclear Job Expectations
- If you find your work conflicting or if you have unclear job expectations, talk directly to your manager or supervisor so that there is clarity and your job responsibilities and target are well defined. Don't just bottle it all up then explode when you've already had too much.
Company Culture
- Learn to adapt and accept your company culture without necessarily losing who you are. Every company has this company culture that we have to fit into. If you have trouble with fitting in even if you've tried everything, then probably, you need to find another company that you wouldn't have any trouble fitting in.
Lack of management support
- When you're having trouble with the lack of support from the management or if your manager isn't backing you on your projects and proposals, make sure you tell them. Some are just unaware or think that you want things done on your own and won't do anything unless you've said something. So be brave and do what's needed to make your work life easier.
Now that we've addressed the current stressors you have and you may have selected an action plan from the list above or you may have come up with your own action plans, it's now time to look into other tips that can help you make worklife easier. Why? We may not be aware that we are stressed over something. We must make sure that we follow the guidelines on the next step to AVOID STRESSFUL SITUATIONS from happening and to simply make WORKLIFE EASIER.
===========================

STEP#4 - Other tips to reduce your other work-related stress.
Work stress can result from anywhere and anything so you've got to be prepared.

Below, I've listed down all the things I do to avoid and reduce work-related stress and make worklife easier. These tips will help you address the causes of stress that you may not even be aware of. The following tips would also help you become better prepared for stress at your workplace and help you live an easier worklife.

What you need to do is LIST DOWN all the things that you think can improve your stress levels and make your worklife easier so that you can add these things to your action plans in Step #3.

1) Delegate and assign tasks

No matter how good you are, there's only one you so learn to delegate and assign tasks to increase work efficiency. If you do not have subordinates, make sure that you let your supervisor/manager know how much you can handle without sacrificing work quality. This actually shows that you're concerned about your work output. Also included here are training not only the subordinates but also for supervisors and managers so that work flows smoothly.
Excel Training Session :)

STRESSORS AVOIDED: Burnout, having little time to finish things, too much overtime work and being overworked.

2) Appreciate and Acknowledge Great Work!

Whether you're a manager, supervisor or part of the workforce, you need to make sure there is great synergy at work. A means to promote teamwork and self-worth among the workforce is to appreciate and acknowledge their work. This enables people to be inspired to work harder, thus making life easier for everyone at work. A simple phrase such as "Great job!" does wonders for a person. Believe me, I know because I also become really inspired when people appreciate my hard work. Also part of appreciating team member's work contribution is by celebrating their birthday.

Celebrating birthdays shows your appreciation plus it builds camaraderie
STRESSORS AVOIDED: Lack of teamwork and camaraderie, Subordinates acting out & intentionally providing poor output because of lack of appreciation.

3) Find Similarities and adapt to co-workers, company culture and work environment.

Having a sense of belongingness in the company culture, work environment and work peers is something that we all strive for. In order to to have a great camaraderie in the workplace, we need to connect with our co-employees, our bosses and our team. Having similar interests makes it easier to bond with people in the workplace.

Try to learn more about the people around you by making observations (photos in their social media account, what they usually talk about, etc.) without looking like a stalker. Perhaps they love watching Koreanovelas, or they're updated with the latest movies, playing Pokemon Go or any other games, or they're into foodtrips and island hopping.

When you have similar interests, it's easier to start and hold a conversation. Once you share interests, it's easier to become friends with them. Having friends at work is one of the top reasons to stay in a company and it also helps you lessen stress by having an outlet and someone to talk to who understands your situation. I know a lot of people who would stay at a company only because they actually enjoyed the company of friends rather than the work itself.

Playing basketball is one of the most common interest especially for guys :)
 STRESSORS AVOIDED: Lack of people to talk to about work, Misundertanding and Friction at work.

4) Don't be too sensitive and accept constructive criticisms.

Whether you're a man or woman, being too sensitive at work is not healthy because people become afraid to talk to you or confront you about problems because you might not react professionally. Being able to accept criticisms especially constructive ones is a sign of true professionalism. Don't take work criticisms personally. Sabi nga nila, trabaho lang walang personalan (Translation: Nothing personal, just work).
Iiyak na yan!!! :D
STRESSORS AVOIDED: Being targeted by office bullies, Feeling that the whole world is against you because of some bad remarks made by a couple of co-workers.

5) Stand up for yourself!

Most people are stressed at work because they feel they are being "used" or stepped on by other people in order to get a promotion. Some are even bullied and picked on for random things which include acne, the way they dress, their face, hair, social status, etc. Others feel stressed when they are manipulated into doing something they didn't like to do or are not part of their job description. All I can say is STAND UP FOR YOURSELF. Don't let them get their way and push you around. Talk to them professionally. Even if they won't like what you'll say, at least you'll put a stop to their bad treatment. Just make sure that you do so professionally and in a calm manner.

STRESSORS AVOIDED: Being bullied at work, Feeling of being used, Other people taking credit for your hard work.

6) Thank your co-workers.

It's weird how some people forget to even thank their co-workers for a job well done or for favors given. Saying thank you makes the recipient feel appreciated and they tend to help you more in the future. Sometimes those who are against you are actually the people you fail to thank. Think about that.  Having lunch-outs or dinner with colleagues is a great way to lessen stress and tension from work and it's also a great way to thank your team for a job well done.

A simple dinner out of office may be just what the stress doctor ordered! :)
 STRESSORS AVOIDED: Friction with co-workers, being labeled as ingrata (ungrateful)

7) Know when it's time to say goodbye but don't burn bridges.

It can be stressful if you can't decide whether you want to stay in a company or look for a greener pasture especially if you have lots of friends in the company and you love your workplace. However, look into the pros and cons and weigh in everything then put everything into writing so that when you look at the list, you'll have a FINAL ANSWER whether you want to stay or go. Also, remember not to burn bridges. The last thing you want is your past haunting your present. Avoid that kind of stress by leaving the company properly and staying in touch with former workmates because you'll never know when you'll see each other again.
No goodbyes but "See you again"!
 STRESSORS AVOIDED: Stress of deciding whether to stay in a company or not.

8) Manage your finances.

Don't live like a king one day and live like a pauper for the rest of the days. Live within your means and make sure to use your credit card only for emergency purposes. Living from paycheck to paycheck should be a thing of the past. Set aside specific percentages of your salary as if you're doing your very own "paluwagan". Open a deposit account wherein you'll vow not to withdraw anything unless there's a life and death emergency.

Learn to manage your finances well enough to have investments.And most importantly, don't try to impress your friends in social media by living beyond your means just to show how "rich" you are. Remember, those who matter don't mind and those who mind don't matter. Impress your family with your Savings and Investment! A good investment of course is also your HEALTH so make sure you take your vitamins, that's why I always take FERN-C because the cost is only a fraction of what I would pay or what I have to lose (due to absence) if I get sick.

STRESSORS AVOIDED: Stress of worrying about bills and debt, stress of not having an emergency fund, stress of having to figure out how to survive until the next payday.

9) Enjoy Night Outs with Co-workers and Friends
Spending quality and fun time with officemates is one way to build a strong teamwork and help reduce stress brought about by work. Remember to take your FERN-C though because alcoholic drinks plus less sleep might make your immunity lower.
Night out with my team :)
STRESSORS AVOIDED: Not fitting in, Couldn't talk to other people who would understand about work-related woes.

10) Take your much needed rest

When you're sick, injured or you feel burned out from work, take a rest. Your productivity will be better if you also feel better. You will recover quickly rather than making your situation worse by pushing yourself beyond your comfortable limits.

STRESSORS AVOIDED: Working while sick or injured might increase stress levels due to pain and sleepiness and you might make mistakes that you might end up regretting.

11) Make a to-do list

Instead of having your ideas go to different directions and you going nowhere near your goals and tasks,make a to-do list. It would save you the headache and stress of forgetting something or mistakes in prioritizing some tasks over the other. Speaking of head aches, make sure you help yourself cope with stress and headaches by taking FERN-C everyday.

STRESSORS AVOIDED: Forgetting tasks, Missing deadlines, unorganized work process

12) Allocate your resources and plan for the future
This is pretty much self-explanatory. Instead of just making ends meet because of hapless spending on things that aren't necessary, set aside specific funds and plan for your future, such as a time deposit, insurance, investments, savings, etc. Your plan should include your family's health and FERN-C can help protect them as well as give them the energy they need to face life and work-related stress. This also includes work related matters like knowing how to handle company resources and keeping check of your buffer stock. Running out of office resources can also cause a lot of stress and difficulty not only for you but for everyone using it.

STRESSORS AVOIDED: Stress of worrying on what the future would bring, Uncertainties and fear or not having enough in the future.

13) Ask for help and don't take more than you can handle.

Don't be ashamed or afraid to ask for help especially if a major project or your team's target is on the line. It will save you from a lot of stress and you may even promote teamwork, wherein others help you and you help them when they find themselves in a similar situation. When working overtimes with your team, make sure they too are protected by suggesting they take their vitamins and don't forget that FERN-C is the best Vitamin C around.

STRESSORS AVOIDED: Overworking, Time Pressure and Deadlines, Overtimes

14) Play and Enjoy Games
The best creative outlet for stress is playing and enjoying games. Right now there are a plethora of gaming units and consoles to choose from. The most popular game right now is Pokemon Go for Android and IOS. My choice of consoles are of course the Playstation series and my Nintendo New 3DS. I love playing Monster Hunter (currently I'm playing MH Generations) and Pokemon. I know I'm a  bit old to still be playing these games but I prefer playing games over other stress relievers such as smoking and partying. To each his own I guess.
Monster Hunter :)
STRESSORS AVOIDED: Stress and tension build-up, Overworking, Burnout

15) Always be prepared for anything

The last thing I need is an emergency meeting or presentation wherein the data I need takes ages before everything is generated, sorted and analyzed. Nothing really ups the stress level than time pressure so as much as possible, I have all the data I need at the drop of a hat. In case my manager or a top management needs data, I only need to open my files and boom! Everything's ready. It makes me look good and professional and it helps relieve work tension. Speaking of relieving stress and tension, FERN-C helps me cope with work-related stress.
Expect the unexpected!
 STRESSORS AVOIDED: Sudden surprises, Time pressure, Unexpected issues or problems, Work tension.

16. Be a gift to others.

Don't be that person that only adds to other people's problems and stress. If your manager or co-workers need files or something, make sure that every data is correct to avoid wasted time and effort. You can even go an extra mile for them as long as it won't take too much of your time. Make them laugh and let them enjoy your company. Friends at work definitely lessens stress levels.
Make them laugh & let them enjoy your company! ;-)

STRESSORS AVOIDED: Stress brought about by handing people WRONG information or data, Unfamiliarity, Feeling of being alone.

17. Celebrate Success and Learn from Failures

We all experience failure and that's how we get better so make sure you don't lose sight of your goals if you experience some problems.

Celebrating with officemates builds camaraderie and helps with stress at work

STRESSORS AVOIDED: Stress and tension build-up, Overworking, Burnout

18. Defend yourself without hurting others

Whenever we make mistakes, other people can't help but judge us. You're allowed to explain or defend yourself, just don't go overboard and be all defensive, even doing name dropping,  resulting to hurting other people. Being too defensive and saying mean words to others causes us a lot of stress because we can't ever take back what we've said at the heat of the moment so make sure you keep calm and avoid being too aggressive.

STRESSORS AVOIDED: Not being able to recover something mean that you've already said.

19. Work-Life Balance

This is just a common problem and source of stress but it's quite easy to solve. Just don't go on too many overtimes, disconnect from work when you're already at home by not bringing work at home. Always take FERN-C to have the energy you need to maintain that work-life balance.

STRESSORS AVOIDED: Stress and tension build-up, Overworking, Burnout

20. Do what is right even when no one is looking.

INTEGRITY is important because doing something wrong will definitely make your stress and blood pressure sky rocket. Why create mistakes that will torture your conscience and be a major source of stress right? So always do the right thing even if no one is looking.

STRESSORS AVOIDED: Lying, Guilty Conscience, Stress and tension build-up.

21. Engage in Outreach Projects, Fun Runs and others company sponsored events.
Engage in company events like Fun Runs, Outreach projects, etc. This way, you'll feel like you're definitely part of the company and it helps lower work stress if there are non-work related activities within the company. Activities might make you feel tired and tiredness can lead to stress so make sure you take your Vitamin C to help you boost your energy. I personally prefer FERN-C over the other Vitamin C because I'm sure that it works!
Engage in company activities
STRESSORS AVOIDED: Stress and tension build-up, Overworking, Burnout

22. Don't let relationship problems cause stress at work.

Relationships, good or bad, should not affect your work. It will only cause you to have a poor work performance, leading to more problems and stress. Be professional and don't let misunderstandings, breakups, etc. make you lose your interest at work.

STRESSORS AVOIDED: Losing focus on work,

23. Don't engage in gossiping.

Wasting time on gossiping should be avoided. It builds up tension and weakens the bond and creates a huge gap with everyone. You'll get stressed about it especially when the person being targeted is confrontational.

STRESSORS AVOIDED: Stress and tension build-up, Overworking, Burnout

24. Be organized.

Where is my ____? Has anyone seen my ____? These are just some sample sentences I usually spoke about everyday but not anymore. I've learned to assign places for things and keeping them organized so next time I need staple wires or work documents, I know exactly where to look.  It maximizes time and avoids tension.

25. Think Outside the Box.

I often get stressed when I can't seem to find a solution to a certain problem but it's now easy because I think out of the box so rather than having a couple of conventional solutions, I might think of easier and time-saving non-conventional solutions. It helps improve my work output and it helps me avoid unnecessary tension.

26. Cook and share it with co-workers.

My coworkers and I decided that it would be a great idea to share food with each other during lunch so that we would have less time worrying and thinking about what to eat everyday at lunch. We just had enough of the canteen food and fastfood isn't very healthy. Try it. You'll also enjoy your bonding during lunch plus you get to be creative with the food. Speaking of food, make sure you avoid skipping breakfast! When you're hungry, you become more stressed and grumpy. Aside from breakfast, always remember to take your vitamin C. For me, it's FERN-C.

STRESSORS AVOIDED: Stress and tension build-up, Eating food that's not satisfying

27. Keep a schedule or planner to be on top of deadlines.

Why are you buying Starbucks planners and never actually using them to plan things? I've used to use mine for movies and keeping family and group dates and special occasions but that planner isn't just for that. I now use my planner to remember meetings and schedules and most importantly, deadlines to keep me in check.

STRESSORS AVOIDED: Stress and tension build-up, Not meeting Deadlines

28. Wake Up Early!

Sleep early so you can work up early. Sleeping 4 hours or less makes your body weak and susceptible to sickness. Also, waking up late makes me more stressed because of the traffic. I also end up very weak at work when I lack proper sleep.

If you must finish something, better take FERN-C to ensure you won't get sick because of lack of sleep.

STRESSORS AVOIDED: No sleep or not enough sleep, Traffic, Low work output

29. Watch a Movie and indulge in your favorite food.
When I'm really stressed, I watch movies and buy my favorite food. Indulging once in a while makes me look forward to movie date night because it's one of my main stress relievers.

30. Watch out for unrealistic goals.

Unrealistic goals are a surefire way to set yourself to failure. If you are tackling unrealistic goals, make sure to manage your expectations and be open to your manager about your capabilities and capacities.

31. Keep your eyes on the target.

Always keep your eye on the target. Losing focus and doing other things because they seem easier will deal more stress to you so make sure you don't lose your focus.

STRESSORS AVOIDED: Stress and tension build-up, Lack of focus.

32. Don't dwell on the negative.

Problems happen and everything won't go your way everyday. Dwelling and crying over spilled milk only makes matter worse. Remember not to be affected by hurdles and small hiccups because these are just temporary and eventually you'll reach your goal.

STRESSORS AVOIDED: Stress and tension build-up, Dwelling over problems, Can't move on to other tasks because mind is fixated on the current failure.

33. Enjoy your favorite music.

Whether you're stuck in traffic or really in a bad mood because of work, listening to your favorite music and tunes will help you feel better.

STRESSORS AVOIDED: Stress and tension build-up, Bad mood because of work, Being stuck in Traffic

34. Learn to say "NO".

Sometimes the person who make me feel most stressed is myself. I feel that way a lot because it's a little hard to say no to people especially if they're asking for help or favors. Since this causes a lot of stress on myself, I've learned to say NO especially if it would interfere with my current tasks.

STRESSORS AVOIDED: Stress of having to do other people's jobs, and tension build-up, Overworking, Burnout.

35. Don't Overreact over Small Things.

Relax. Don't blow things up or overract over small thing. Worrying too much causes small things to enlarge in your own perspective when in fact, the issues or problem is manageable or easy to overcome. Instead of overreacting on things, explore other ways to solve your predicament.

36. Don't overwhelm yourself.

Don't overthink and overwhelm yourself. Relax. Focus and do one thing at a time, this way your effectiveness is never compromised and you get to finish things rather than have a lot of things done half-way.

37. Stay positive and keep your sense of humor intact.

Stress is part of our daily lives and aside from having a healthy body, we need to look at the positive side of things to ensure that stress won't get to us. 38. Prepare everything the night before.

I really hate it when I'm trying to look for a certain pants and I can't seem to find it and when I look on my watch, I'm already late for work or I end up running just to avoid tardiness. Another thing I hate is when I forget to bring my phone or my usb/hdd when I'm rushing in the morning. I've learned my lesson so to avoid last-minute problems

STRESSORS AVOIDED: Traffic, Tardiness, Forgetting something, Morning Rush.

39. Stop Procastrinating and do what needs to be done NOW.

You need to stop procrastinating especially when there are deadlines to be met. Do what you can TODAY even if you need that thing done next week or in the future. The key here is time management and ensuring that you stop putting off work to a later date.

40. Say sorry if you hurt someone even if unintentionally.

At work, it's common to argue and disagree with people which leads to misunderstanding and unwanted stress. Make sure that people around you are not harboring ill feelings by saying sorry if you feel you have stepped on their space or ego. Also, be man enough to admit mistakes, it would free up worries and it would keep you from stressing for days if somebody accidentally found out about your boo-boo. Believe me, eventually they will find out about it so rid yourself of stressing about it. That way you can make amends and focus on your job.
Admit mistakes so you have lesser load to carry in your mind.
STRESSORS AVOIDED: Friction with co-employees, Misunderstanding

41. Go on Vacations

This doesn't need any further explanation because this is definitely needed to unwind and relieve tension and stress from work. Just make sure to pack your ever dependable FERN-C when you go on vacation because different countries/locations have different seasons and temperature so the last thing you want from a vacation is to get sick. When I'm on vacation, I don't forget to take FERN-C to boost your immunity against the elements and viruses spreading around because I want to fully enjoy my vacation.

===========================

STEP#5 - Put everything into ACTION and BE CONSISTENT.
Now that we've identified the sources of our work-related stress as well as the effects of stress in our body and the action plans we need in order to relieve our stress at work, it's time to put everything into action. The key thing here is consistency. Don't do something for one day and forget it the next, make sure that you write your action plans and place it somewhere where you are reminded constantly such as the fridge door, your office corkboard/whiteboard, etc. Just make sure that the action plans would not offend people who might be able to read it.

There you have it, those are the steps I take to make worklife easy and handle work-related stress like a PRO!

The important thing about stress is make sure that you take action and that your body has enough defenses to fight off stress, which is why I always take FERN-C to help me make worklife manageable and easy!
